CORRESPONDENCE
ART UNION PROFITS.
[to the editor.] Sir,— Recently it came to my notice that in the Buller district the Westport Hospital Board, on receiving its share of the profits of the art unions conducted under Government permit, distributed this ’ money amongst the pensioners of the district. Could you inform me whether the Greymouth district receives any of these benefits, and if so, to what use they are put? This matter may be of use to other pensioners in the Grey district.—Yours, etc., PENSIONER.
When the above letter was referred to the Mayor (Mr F. A. Kitchignham) he said that a certain proportion of the profits from the art unions are received by the Mayor’s Fund for the relief of distress. The money is mainly used for the purpose of meeting emergencies arising out of sickness, fire, flood, etc.—Ed., “Star.”
