CHINESE CLAIM VICTORY. [BY CABLE.—PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.) SHANGHAI, November 29 The Chinese claim to have smashed the Japanese offensive in the Northern Hupeh province. The Chinese recovered several points north-west of Suihsien and forced the Japanese to retire southward. They claim the capture of many machine guns and hundreds of rifles.
TRAIN DERAILED SHANGHAI, November 29. A train which., was conveying a number of foreign correspondents and Chinese and Japanese officials to Nanking, from Shanghai, for to-mor-row’s ceremony at the signature of the Treaty between Japan and Wangchingwei Government of Nanking is reported to have been blown up just outside Soochow this morning. Five cars were derailed as the result of the explosion, which was apparently due to guerilla action. The casualties are reported at one hundred, but it is not known whether they include any foreigners. The entire Shanghai-Nan-king train service was disrupted. The railway has cancelled all today’s services to Nanking. FRENCH-SIAMESE WAR BANGKOK, November 29. It is officially stated that three French aeroplanes, attempting to raid Nakornpanom, were shot down. HANOI, November 29. It is announced that seven Thai planes on Thursday bombed strategic roadhead towns of Thakhek and Savannaket, destroying houses, and killing and wounding some people. The French immediately retaliated with 81 millimetre mortars shelling Lakhon, opposite Thakhek.
