CHANNEL NAVAL ACTION
ENEMY SHIPS CHASED. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, November 29. The Admiralty announces that early this morning British light naval forces made contact with enemy light forces in the Channel. The enemy retired at high speed towards Brest, pursued by the British ships. One British ship was damaged. Damage was inflicted on the enemy, but the extent of it is not yet known. GERMAN CLAIMS (Recd. November 39, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, November 29. A German communique claims that in a naval battle at the western exit of the Channel, close to the British coast, German destroyers torpedoed two .British destroyers. Other German destroyers sank two steamers and two smaller auxiliaries off the south coast. German ships were undamaged.
DOVER SHELLED. (Recd.. Nov. 30, 11.10 a.m.). LONDON, November 29. German long-range guns on the French coast carried out the usual daily bombardment of Dover this morning. Mist prevented sighting the targets. ENEMY CLAIMS DENIED. LONDON, November 29. Nothing is known in London either of the Italian claim to have torpedoed three merchantmen in the Red Sea, or the German claim to have sunk a 20,000-ton ship in the Atlantic.
