SHIPS ESCAPE ATTACKERS
COULMORE REPORTS SAFETY
[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
Recd. November 3, 10.15 a.m.) WASHINGTON, November 2,
The Camperdown radio has been informed by the coastguard cutter Bibb that the British freighter Coulmore is safe.
Despite the report of the vessel’s safety, considerable scepticism is felt as to the validity of the radio message, and it is doubted whether the Coulmore has been in direct communication. The coastguard is continuing the search.
Later, the Associated Press of America stated that the Coulmore herself reported her safety, and the search has therefore been suspended.
The vessel gave her position as just within the neutrality belt.
