DEATH OF HUSBAND

HEAVY DAMAGES CLAIMED.

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

WELLINGTON, November 1.

Damages totalling £5035 1/6 were claimed by Mrs. Bernardine Maud Roach, of Otaki, in the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Johnston and a jury of 12, on behalf of herself and her eight infant children. The claim arose from the death of her husband, a carpenter, as a result of injuries he received when the car in which he was a passenger collided with another car on the main highway near Te Horo, last March.

There were three defendants, Daniel George Fraser, licensee of the New Central Hotel, Petone, in whose car Roach was a passenger; Ronald Graeme Guy, rental car proprietor, of Hastings, the owner of the other car; and Whiu Carroll, farmer, of Hastings, the driver of Guy’s car. . ■ • r Plaintiff said that her husband was 57 at the time of his death. She was 33. The children ranged from one to 14 years.

Negligence on the part of one or other of the drivers was alleged to be responsible, such alleged negligence on the part of each being set out. It' was explained that Fraser picked up Roach at Waikanae, to take him to a meeting of the Racing Club stewards at Otaki.
