Mrs. W. -Fowler left, this morning, on return to Christchurch. Mr. G. Robinson left, to-day, on return to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. C. Calder left, this morning, on return to Dunedin. Mr. N. Gibson left to-day, on return to Wellington. Miss G. Wilson left, this morning, on return to Hornby. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ferner will leave Greymouth for Whangarei, tomorrow. Messrs. J. Ryall and A. IL McKane (members of the Gerymouth Harbour Board) and W. B. Gilbert (secretary) left, this morning, for Wellington. Mr. W. A. Croft, Train Running Officer, Railways Department, Greymouth, has received notice of transfer on promotion to Transport Officer, Invercargill. Mr. R. P. Kania, of the staff of the Greymouth Technical High School, left this morning, for Hamilton, to take up an appointment on the staff of the Hamilton High School. He was accompanied by Mrs. Kania. Mr. G. M. Sheldon, Railways Department, who has been on relieving duty at Greymouth, will leave on Saturday, on return to Christchurch. Mr. H. de Conrcy arrived yesterday, from Christchurch, to replace Mr. Sheldon. Passengers by Cook Strait Airways West. Coast service to-day were: —Mr. W. Kennedy (Wellington-Greymouth); Miss K. Agent (Westport-Greymouth); Mr. W. K. Taylor (Greymouth-West-port).

A member of a prominent South African family, Lord de Villiers, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday on a short visit to Nev/ Zealand. Lord de Villiers, who is aged 27, was educated at Oxford University and is the third holder of the title’ having succeeded in 1934. He is interested in farming.— Tress Association.

The death occurred at Nelson, this morning, of Captain Edward Graham, a native of Adelaide, aged 80 years. Deceased was closely associated with early transport to the West Coast, as master of Anchor Line vessels, and retired only about seven years ago. .Hewas predeceased by his wife some years ago, and is survived by two sons and two daughters. One son, William, is Engineering Superintendent for the Canterbury Shipping Company at Lyttelton.

The death occurred at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. W. F. White, Akaroa, on Saturday, of Mrs. Elizabeth Wood, widow of Mr. Peter Henrv Wood, aged 67 years. Deceased leaves one son, Mr. H. J. Wood (Cobden) and two daughters, Mrs. White (Akaroa) and Mrs. A. Miller (Hamilton). She is >,also survived by a sister in Greymouth, Mrs. Moss (Alexander Street), and three brothers, Messrs J. E., R. and G. Williams (Wellington).

The death occurred at Invercargill this morning, of MY. J. F. P. Joyce, aged 77 years. Deceased had been associated with the literary work of the “Southland News” for the past 56 years. In his younger days he was keenly interested in rowing and athletics, and later in bowling, being the provincial singles champion on one occasion. Mr. Joyce and his wife celebrated their golden wedding on July 31 last. He is survived by his wife, three sons, Fred (Greymouth), Arthur (Wanganui), and Oliver (Greymouth), and one daughter, Mrs. H. P. Cowie (Invercargill). Messrs F. and O. Joyce will leave this evening, for Invercargill.

The death occurred at Nelson Creek, last evening, of one of the oldest residents of the district, Mrs. Matilda O’Brien, wife of Mr. John O’Brien. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Williams, former well-known Nelson Creek residents, deceased was a native of Red Jacks, aged 67 years. She had resided at Nelson Creek since she was two years of age. She had been in ill-health for the past four months. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mesdames Joseph Tibbles (Nelson Cieek), and Rex Fitzgerald (Blaketown). and three sons, John and Michael (Nelson Creek), and Thomas (Kotuku). She is also survived by six brothers, Messrs James and Bert Williams (Grevmouth), Harry Williams (Nelson Creek), and John, David and Thomas Williams (North Island), and four sisters, Mesdames A. Wprner (New Plymouth), J. Kinson (Huntly), S. Coker (Rongotea), and H. Griffiths (Wallsend). The funeral will leave St. Patrick’s Church, Nelson Creek, at 1 p.m. to-morrow for Karoro. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m.
