L. J. Ellis has been a leading horse r man in New Zealand for several seasons, and has ridden the winners of most of the Dominion’s important races, including the Auckland Cup twice on Cuddle, and the New Zealand Cup on Oratrix, Fersen and Cuddle, besides many other valuable handicaps and classic events. Ellis headed the winning jockeys’ list in the 1933-34, the 1934-35, the 1935-36, and the 1937-38 seasons, and his decision to settle in Australia will be a loss to New Zealand racing.
