SHIP DESERTION CHARGES [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH. April 15. Arrested last night with only a penny in their possession, Yoseph Stein, 18, and Friedrich Drews, 17, were charged in the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court this morning with desertion from the German steamer Dortmund at Auckland on Thursday. They were remanded in custody until Friday, when two other young Germans, who have already pleaded guilty to deserting from the barque Komxnodore Johnsen at Auckland, will be dealt with.

ARRESTS AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, April 15. Arrested in the city last night, two German seamen, belonging to the steamer Dortmund, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, charged with deserting the ship. They were Heinz Welling, 18, and Wilhelm Ostkaemper, 20. The police said the Dortmund sailed for Sydney yesterday. A remand was granted until Friday, the men to remain in custody.
