WELLINGTON, February 6. lhe council of the New Zealand yoi . association, at a meeting to-day, C ,/,V’ ecl , to Ohfer £2OOO in prize money .. >.;!<■ t.irce open golf tournaments to bo held in the Dominion this year as part of the centennial celebrations, i was decided that the prize money Jboul.l go exclusively to the six leading professionals in each of the three ■>P n tournaments. Any amateurs vho nappen to gain places, will receive trophies.
The first tournament will be held in Auckland towards the end of October; the second in Christchurch immediately afterwards; and the third on Miramar links, Wellington, about the middle of November, when fiie Nev/ Zealand open ’and amateur championships will be decided. This liberal prize money is expected to induce many overseas professionals to visit New Zealand this year.
