Technically knocking out “Tiger" Jack Fox in the ninth round. Melio Bettina. a farm boy from Beacon, won recognition by New York State as the world light-heavyweight champion.
tn a bout at Detroit. Tony Galento (Hist. 121 b) knocked out Natie Brown in the fourth round.
Tony Galento’s prospects of meeting Joe I.ouis suffered a setback through th" Michigan Boxing Commission questioning the honesty of bis defeat, of Natie. Brown. 'The commission suspended Galento and banned Brown for
life. Critics consider that Galento is merely a second-rate, but picturesque lighter, being “bally-hooed” into prominence. Nevertheless he. is the National Boxing Association’s choice, as first contender for the heavy-weight title.
