Taylor left, this morning, on return to Christchurch. Mr. H. Myerscough left ttyis morning, on return to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. N. Sullivan left to-day, on return to Lyttelton. Rev. Father G. O’Meeghan left this morning, on return to Christchurch. Mr. J. Tallentyre was a passenger by this morning’s express to Christchurch. Dr. H. von Diercksen, Ambassador at Tokio, has been appointed German Ambassador in London. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre and Mr. F. L. Turley have been re-appointed as members of the Buller Licensing Committee. Mr. Neil John Walls has been appointed Deputy Registrar of Marriages, Births and Deaths, for the Kumara district. A London cablegram announced the death of Mortimer- Menpesj. F.R.G.S., the artist, mainly war scenes. He was born in Australia. Mr P. J. McLean, Chairman of the Greymouth Harbour Board, and 1 Mr D. C. Milne (Engineer to the Board) will leave to-morrow for Wellington. A Sydney cablegram stated that Reverend John Watson of Rangiora was married on Saturday at Rose Bay, Sydney, to Mips Gwendolen Abbott, third daughter of the Mayor and Mayoress of Vauclause, Aiderman and Mrs. H. James and Miss Margaret James will leave to-morrow, on an extended trip to Australia and England. Prior to the opening of the Westland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, Mr. James was farewelled by the totalisator staff, and presented with a gold-mounted fountain pen. The presentation was made by Mr. H. R. Barrett, who, on behalf of the staff, extended to Mr. James, and his wife .and daughter, best wishes for a pleas- . urable trip. Members of the Grey- > mouth Jockey Club also farewelled Mr J James, and wished, him' a pleasant ' i trip, and a safe return. The .death occurred at the Westland Hospital of Mrs Jane Turpin Kerr, widow of Thomas Kerr. Mrs Kerr, who was a native of Melbourne and 78 years old, had lived in New Zealand for more than 60 years. For a long time she was a school teacher at Woodstock, and afterwards conducted a private school in Hokitika. Her husband, -who died many years ago, was County Engineer. She leaves two son®—Mr William Kerr (Wellington), and Mr Thomas Kerr (Hokitika), Mr William Millner (Kanieri), and Mr James Millner (Hokitika) are brothers.
