EXPORT BUTTER BOXES [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION’.] WELLINGTON, February 28. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Martin) announced to-day that, in order that the contents might be better protected, butter for export, on and after August 1, must be packed in the substandard box The Minister said that it had been found that the Saranac box let in dirt and dust, causing loss, and was not sufficient protection against mould growth. PIG CHAMPIONSHIP WHANGAREI, February 28. So far, record entries have been received for the national bacon big championship, to be held at the Whanga.rei Show, on March 11 and 12. To date, there are 100 entries, a record for any pig section in New Zealand or Australia. Last year, there were 60 entries. PURCHASE OF FERTILISER AUCKLAND, February 28. Dairy companies and farmers’ organisations are now placed on the same basis as merchants, in the supply of fertilisers, enabling them to purchase superphosphate from manufacturers at wholesale prices, namely, £3/11/6 in the North Island and £3 15/6 in the South Island. This announcement was made to-day by Mr. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce. No reduction will be made to private purchasers, owing to the high cost, of production, due to disturbed world conditions and increased freight charges. The new price regulations, replacing those of 1936, forbid pricecutting, except in the form of a bonus or dividend in general trading profits, not arising exclusively from sales of superphosphate.
