MARRIAGE BUREAU
HEALTH TESTS ATT SYDNEY
SYDNEY, November 25
A marriage Advisory Bureau! which is believed to be the first in Australia has been opened by the Racial Hygiene Association of New South Wales at No. 14 Martin Place. Mrs; L. E. Goodisson,. secretary of the association, said that the clinic would instruct couples about to be married on physical and mental problems. Applicants would be given a thorough physical examination, including, when necessary, X-ray examinations for tuberculosis, and blood tests. They would
also be asked to answer a questionnaire dealing with the previous health of themselves and their relations. The prospective husband and wife, she said, would be given one of four certificates, declaring that both parties would be perfectly fit to marry and raise families;. that marriage should ■be delayed for three or six months;. I that marriage was advised without 'parenthood; or that marriage should be discouraged. i “We believe that young people will <• be eager to obtain a clean - bill' 'of i health for their own peace of mind, If they are fit neither of them will : . have to worry, and any possible anxiety will be removed,” Mrs. GoOdis-" |son said last night.. “If they marryagainst advice, at least they will know;y what they have to face.”
