Mr. W. Richards left this morning, for Christchurch, to receive medical treatment.

A London cablegram stated that the late Sir Frederick MacMillan , publisher, left £202,224.

Mr. R. Chisholm, Traffic Branch, Railway Department, Greymouth, will leave on Thursday, on transfer to Maheno.

A Berlin cablegram stated .that G. von Crajnm is seriously ill with influenza. He will probably be unable to go to America for the tennis championships. ‘ .

The death has occurred at Wellington, of Mr. Nicol McNicoll, formerly official in the providoring department of the Union Steam Ship Company. He retired in 1920.—Press Assn.

A London cablegram stated that Rear-Admiral Wilbraham Ford has been appointed Admiral Superintendent at Malta. He formerly commanded the Australian Squadron.

Mr. P. W. Knights, stationmaster, Stillwater, left, this morning, on transfer to Hornby. Pending the arrival of the permanent appointee, Mr. W. R. McLean (Te Aroha), Mr. A. T. B. Lowry, Greymouth, is acting stationmaster at Stillwater.

The Board of Governors of Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln, has appointed Mr. E. R. Hudson, B.Ag., B.Sc., at present superintendent of the Extension Service of the Tasmanian Department of Agriculture, as professor of agriculture and director of the college- Mr. Hudson was born in Christchurch, receiving his early education at the Sydenham primary school and the Christchurch Technical College. There were 50 applications for the position.

The appointment ,of Mr. T. Mark, deputy-Public Service Commissioner, and Mr, J. H. Boyes, Commissioner of Pensions; to be joint Public Service Commissioners, was announced- last evening by the Prime Minister. The appointments, which will date from August 15, have been approved by the Governor-General. The new Commissioners hold office for three ’ years. There had been no permanent occupant of the office of Public Service Commissioner since the resignation last year of Mr. P. D. N. Verschaffelt. Since that time, Mr. A. D. Thompson has f been acting-Commissioner, with Mr. Mark as assistant —Press Assn.

The death took place at Christchurch on Sunday, of Mr. Henry Karnbach, formerly of Kokatahi, and eldest son of the late H. Karnbach, of Kokatahi. A few weeks ago he was knocked down by a motor ear and received head injuries. He was a native of Kokatahi, and 62 years of age. He leaves a widow, and family of two daughters (Misses Pearl, of Christchurch, and Irene, of Hokitika) and two’ sons (Norman and William). There are nine sisters left (Mrs- J. Davidson, of Wellington; Mrs. Dumphy. of Temuka; Mrs. 11. Stapleton. of Hokitika; Mrs. P. Jones,'of Kokatahi; Mrs. J. Hende, of Gladstone; Mrs. W. Morris, of Kokatahi; Mrs. Otto Amberger, of Methven; Mrs. Fred Amberger, of Kokatahi; and Mrs. A. Meharry, of Kokatahi).
