The condition of Mr C. J. McKenzie, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, was reported this morning to be showing improvement.

The death occurred in. Wellington, on Thursday, of August Schlichting, formerly a contractor, on the West Coast, aged 63 years.

Messrs E. Casey, assistant General Manager of Railways, and E. S. Brittenden, District Traffic Manager, arrived yesterday, froth Christchurch.

Rev. Bro. Peter, of Auckland, will arrive, this afternoon, on a visit to his mother, Mrs Kiely, William Street. Brother Peter was recently appointed Director of the Marist Brothers’ School, Invercargill.

Miss Katherine Tibbles, of Greymouth, has been successful in passing the theory of elocution examination, under the tutorship of Miss N. McDonnell, F.T.C.L., for the L.T.C.L. Diploma. Miss Tibbles has completed her pass, having previously been successful in the practical section.

Rev. Dr. Harrison, who has been in charge of St. Patrick’s Parish during the absence of the Greymouth clergy on retreat in Christchurch, left this morning, on return to Christ-, church. Very Rev. Father Long, Rev. Fathers Holohan, Gregory, Healy and McKeon will return this afternoon from Christchurch.

The death has occurred of Dr. William Farquhar Findlay, medical officer of health at Wellington, after an illness of some months. Dr. Findlay was born in Otago in 1887, and was educated at Otago Boys’ High School and the Otago Medical School. He served during the war, and after serving as district health officer at Dunedin. was transferred to Wellington in ' 1920.

The wedding was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Karamea on January 23, of Ellen, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Magee, to William Arthur, eldest so nof Mr. and Mrs. A. Arthur, of Greymouth. The ceremony was performed by Ven. Archdeacon Jermyn, assisted by Rev. Mr. Collins, of Granity. The bride wore a frock of ivory satin beaute, cut on simple lines, with silk lace sleeves. Her tulle veil (the gift of a friend) was fan shaped, beautifully embroidered, and was fastened with a coronet of orange blossoms She carried a bouquet of carnations, sweet peas and maiden hair fern. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Esme Magee, wore lemon and green floral chiffon, with lemon hat and shoes, and carried a sheaf of lemon gladioli, carnations and chrysanthemums, with trail of maidenhair fern. Miss Pat Magee wore blue and pink floral chiffon, with blue hat and shoes, and carried a sheaf of dead rose stocks and antirrhiniums, with trail of maiden-hair fern. Mr. J. Arthur (brother of the bridegroom) was best man and Mr. Barney Magee was • groomsman. Miss Ida Smith presided at the organ. The church was tastefully decorated with large bowls of hydrangea. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Druids’ hall. In the evening a dance was held in Wood’s hall, where a large crowd gathered. The newly married couple left for Greymouth, the bride wearing a blue frock and white hat and shoes. Their future home will be at Runanga.
