PETERSEN REGAINS TITLE LEN HARVEY THRASHED [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. June 5, 1 p.m.) LONDON, June 4. At White City, in a 15 rounds contest for the British and Empire heavyweight championships, Jack Petersen defeated Len. Harvey (holder), who retired at the end of the twelfth round. Petersen forced the fight and staggered Harvey in the fifth round with a terrific right to the jaw. > He closed the champion’s eye in the ninth. In the tenth and eleventh rounds, Petersen delivered a two-hand-ed attack and repeatedly hit Harvey’s closed eye and terribly swollen face. Harvey returned to his corner at
the end of the twelfth round, gesticulating to his seconds, one of whom flung in the towel. TOWNSEND v. MARTIN (Rec. June 5, 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 4. At the Stadium to-night the Canadian, Billy Townsend 9/13, and Billy Martin 9/13 fought a draw. It was an uninteresting contest. HOLLAND V. McKAY. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, June 4. One of the finest boxing contests seen in Auckland for many years was held to T night between Micky Holland, of H.M.S. Diomede, champion of the Atlantic Fleet, and Johnny McKay, the lightweight from Gisborne. The bout was of ten three-minute rounds. The decision went to Holland on points. It was a. real fight all the way. Holland ran up a substantial margin of pointy in his favour over the first half of the contest, but McKay’s grit and determination to make up leeway during the closing stage had the crowd cheering continuQusly. ■
