£l20 FOR CRUISE PASSENGER

SWIMMING POOL ACCIDENT. Damages of £lO were awarded by Mr. Justice Atkinson at Liverpool Assizes recently to John Macreight Mecredy, 52, of Cloonaghlin, Castleparkroad, Sandycove, co. Dublin, a cruise passenger on tho liner Voltaire last May. Mr Mcecredy brought an action for damages for personal injuries against the Liverpool, Brazil and River Plate Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., owner of tho vessel, which was managed for the cruise by Lamport, and Holt Ltd., of Liverpool. Mr. F. E. Pritchard, for Mr. Cecredy. ‘said while on a. sixtocn-days’ cruise to Naples Mr Mcecredy met. with an accident at. the ship’s swimming’ poo’. Some canvas gave way, and Mecredy fell Gft. (<> the deck, receiving concussion. He was taken to his cabin and lay semi-conscious for three days, his recovery being impeded b.v the actions of a. cabin mate, who was constantly inebriated, and came into the cabin in tho early hours of the morning creating' a disturbance. Mr. Mecredy, in evidence, said he asked to bo removed from the cabin, but was left there. No one washed his face for three days. Mr. Justice Atkinson, giving judgment, said there was no suggestion (hat Mecredy was doing anything he should not. haVo done at the time of the accident. lie was satisfied that the guard provided at the swimming pool was not good enough, and what made it. worse was that it looked safe when it was not. Judgment was given for the amount stated ami costs. Stay of execution for 14 days was granted.
