RANFURLY SHIELD
CANTERBURY’S DECISION. [pee pbess association.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 18. That the Ranfurly Shield will not be taken on tour this season, was decided by the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union. The reason was that the Canterbury representative team will probably be depleted through some of its members being chosen for the All Black tour in Australia. In view of the decision, the request from the Marlborough Union for a Shield match against Canterbury, at Blenheim, was declined. Mr. J. H. Harris, a former All Black, was appointed sole Canterbury Rugby selector for the season. ALL BLACKS’ MANAGER. CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. Some criticism of the methods followed in the selection and appointment of managers of All Black teams for overseas tours, was expressed at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union, to-night. It was decided, by eight votes to six, that the delegates to the New Zealand Union should propose at the annual meeting that the manager of the team to tour England in 1935, should be elected by a postal ballot of all affiliated unions.
