SWIMMING.

[FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

AUCKLAND, April 17.

The large number of New Zealand swimming records broken or equalled in Auckland, this season, was increased to-night by two Auckland nominees for the Empire Games, N. Crump and R. Frankham. In an unpaced atttack on 'Crump’s 100 yards record, Frankham covered the distance in 55 l-ssecs„ equalling the record. Soon afterward,s Crump showed that he must still be regarded as the fastest sprinter in the Dominion, by winning the championship of his club in 55secs. Crump established the listed record when he won the Auckland championship on February 6, but on March 28 he was timed at 54 4-ssecs. for 100 yards in the course of a 100 metres sprint, for which he put up the best time made by an Australian or New Zealand swimmer. He has also swam 220 yards and 400 metres in the record times of 2min. 22sec. and smin. 11 4-5 sec.

MOTOR RECORDS.

PARIS, April 17.

John Cobb, driving a four hundred horse power Napier-Railton two-tonner, established five world’s records at Montlhery, including one thousand kilometres, average 122.9 miles per hour; six hours average 123.2; two thousand miles, average 121.4, aftei’ which he skidded into a ditch, slightly damaging the car.

RIFLE SHOOTING. The Grey Miniature Rifle Club held a practice shoot on the Club’s range last evening, when 25 members were present. A. Rudge shot well to register a possible, the first of the season. S. Ashton also shot well to register 69. During the evening Mr A. McLean delivered an interesting lecture on rifle shooting in general, which was enjoyed by ail. The following were ' tne leading scores:—A. Rudge 70, S. Ashton 69, R. Simmers 68. S. Sharman 68, S. Davy 67, F. Malloy 67, R. Wells 66, W. Hamilton 66, L. Forrest 66, I. Hamilton 66, M. Ellery 65, J. Molloy 65, R. Hamilton 63, T. Garth 60, J. Morgan 59, C. Richardson 59. _ Next Tuesday will also be a practice night, and the following Tuesday the first shoot for A. E. Kilgour’s trophy will take place.
