WANGANUI WOOL SALE [pee peess association.) WANGANUI, April 17. Compared with the last sale at Wanganui, in February, there is not [much change to report in fleece wool at to-day’s sale. Any lots showingquality of a 50 count and above were slightly dearer, while rough, shoddy, and coarse cross-breds were just a trifle easier. Pieces, bellies, etc., also showed a decline on the February values. Lambs’ wool, of which there was fair quantity offered, was decidedly easier, except possibly the very best lots, free of seed and of good length and colour. There was not so keen a demand for down wool. Taking the general quality of the [wool offered into consideration, the sale must be considered satisfactory. There was almost a total absence of really-good, stylish lots, and most of the offering was of average grade, many showing seed and skirts. The catalogue submitted aggregated 2,5000 bales. Compared with the February markets for wools, 48’s quality and over was from a half-penny to 2d higher; medium and coarse cross-bred from par to a half-penny higher; Southdown was lower than February by 2d to 3d per lb. With stocks of wool in stores and growers’ sheds substantially reduced, there should be more confidence in future. WHEAT CONFERENCE ROME, April 16. The Wheat Conference discussed milling extraction and denaturing, but reached no conclusion, owing to the varying conditions in different countries. It was suggested that a 10 per cent, reduction in flour production would speedily remove the wheat surplus. GOLD AND EXCHANGE. LONDON. April 16. Gold 134/101d, dollar 515 3-8, franc 78 1-16.
