HOKITIKA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, November 8. At a social gathering held by the members of the Hokitika Amateur Operatic Society last evening, in All Saints’ Hall, opportunity was taken to show the Society’s appreciation of the work of the producer (Miss Anne P. Duff), the pianiste (Miss Giese), the conductor (Mr W. Lindsay) by presenting each with a small token of esteem. Mr McClusky (chairman) made reference to the untiring efforts of these, which were crowned with ultimate success, and he expressed the wish that the Society would continue to do good work. The members sang “For They are Jolly Good Fellows,” as the presentations were made. The recipients duly acknowledged the compliments. Musical items were rendered by Miss Duff, Mr A. Perry, and Mr C. Wright. A happy evening was spent, during which dancing was indulged in and supper handed round.
