COAST FIRE BRIGADES

DEMONSTRATION AT WESTPORT Heavy and incessant rain made conditions unpleasant for the West Coast Fire Brigades’ Demonstration held at Westport on Saturday, the sodden state of the Victoria Square militating against fast times. Teams representing Cobden, Greymouth, Kumara, Ross, Hokitika, Westport, Denniston, Reefton and Otira competed, and the performances registered despite the weather conditions, were proof of the steady and systematic training carried out by each brigade. The Grogan Shield, which, with other prizes was offered for the team gaining the highest aggregate points was won by Hokitika. All the competitors were the guests of the Westport Brigade at a social held in the Westport Brigade’s station on Saturday evening, and the prizes won at the demonstration were then presented.
