Vickers Armstrong, says the military correspondent of “The Times.” At present the principle is only ap- > plied to a two-man tank, but is adapt- . able to larger types. It weighs two i and three-quarter tons, has a road- , speed of forty miles an hour, and is i capable of cross-country performances i equal to those of modern light tank. , It can approach water at speed, when it is driven by a propeller and steered by a rudder. It is able to travel through water at six miles an hour, and remain under for long periods without ventilation troubles. The amphibian will be most useful for clearing bridgeheads and assisting retreats. GERMAN SILVER COINAGE. BERLIN, October 30. In furtherance of the policy of controlling the gold standard the Reichstag sanctioned the minting of twelve millions sterling worth of silver. Simultaneously, smaller bank notes were equivalently withdrawn. The jmports of silver in consequence of recent mintings, have increased 100 per cent, from Britain, 160 from America, and 350 from Mexico. NEW "PLANET NEW YORK, October 30. Professor William Pickering, an in-ternationally-known astronomer, has announced from Mandeville, Jamaica, that he predicts the discovery soon of a new planet, named “Planet P.,” which he estimates principally from a perturbation of the planet Uranus. He estimates that it will be found from five thousand to nine thousand million miles from the sun, and that it will prove to have a diameter of 40,000 miles. He computes that the new planet takes 656 years to make one circuit of the sun, on its elliptical orl>it.

FORD WAGE CUT DETROIT, October 29. The Ford Motor Company announced today that its Shops have returned to six dollars a day minimum wage, which was in effect before Mr. Ford increased it to seven dollars, in December 1929. , WEST INDIES HURRICANE RUGBY, October 30. The Colonial Secretary has heard from the Governor of Bermuda that the legislature voted £5OO for the relief of the hurricane disaster victims in British Honduras.
