OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. In “The Seas Beneath,” George O’Brien’s newest vehicle for Fox Movietone, the talking camera for the first time records vividly the methods used by the U-boats, and also the workings of the “mystery ships” which accounted for a fair share of the 200 German submarines that were in turn sunk by the Allied navies. Marion Lessing, a brilliant recent discovery, has the feminine lead in the production, which is scheduled to be Screened at this afternoon’s matinee and evening, and the supporting cast includes Warren Hymer, John Loder, William Collier, senr., Gaylord Pendleton, Walter C. Kelly, Larry Kent, Walter McGrail, Henry Victor, Moana Maris, Ferdinan Schumann Heink and many other screen celebrities. “It’s a Wise Child”' will be presented at Blackball to-night. “Parlour, Bedroom and Bath” will be screened at Runanga BAND DANCE Lovers of the old time dances are reminded that the Municipal Band dance will be held in the Band Hall to-night, when a first class band will provide the music. sundaYconcert. With the object of augmenting the St. Patrick’s Parish repair funds, a concert will be held in the Town Hall, Greymouth, on Sunday evening next, commencing' at 8.30 o’clock. The programme will include items by Mr Harold Prescott, the well-known soloist, and St. Patrick’s Choir. “HIAWATHA.” The concert version of “Hiawatha” will be presented by the Greymouth Philharmonic Society at the Town Hall, Wednesday next. The work chosen for the last presentation of the year is an admirable one, as it is essentially a great choral work, and while there are many fine solos for the principals, there is a wealth of choir singing and orchestral work that makes it always a popular production for musical societies, and still more popular for the public. The Society has been successful in securing Mr Ernest Short, the eminent baritone, of Wellington, to sing the baritone roles. Mr Short was engaged by the New Plymouth Choral Society and the “Taranaki Herald” in. its criticism of the Society’s performance, said: —“Here is the singer we have waited for. Mr Short has a cultured baritone voice of great range which he exercises with rare discrimination. He also pays his audience the compliment of coming with his work fully prepared. Mr Short came to New Plymouth without a great deal of advance publicity preceding him and maybe because of that he was a greater and more pleasant surprise. The Choral Society have again given music lovers cause to be thankful for their introduction to Mr Short and there will be other concerts and he may come again. Should he do so ha is assured of a stirring welcome.” The othei’ soloists will comprise wellknown and popular vocalists as the following: Miss I. Kitchingham, Mrs J. Saunders, Mrs J. Wright and Mr J. Hadlund. The whole production, under the baton of Mr T. F. Savage, whose ability as a conductor has been a great factor in making the Society’s presentations so popular, will be at least the equal of his previous successes. The box plan for honorary members is now open at the Bristol,, and Monday next for the public.
