HOKITIKA NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, October 5. On Friday evening the No- 2 Hokitika Scout Troop celebrated its eighth anniversary in St. Andrew’s Hall. Mr Erridge was in charge of proceedings, assisted by the Scoutmaster (Mr A. Sutherland) and Assistant Scoutmas, ter. D. Nichol. Vocal items were contributed by Miss Lynn and Miss Cora Lynn and Mr Lodge. Miss Ella Robertson gave an exhibition of classic dancing; Master Allan Coles gave a lecture on physiology- Recitations weie given by Cubs Jones and Gilchrist, and a humorous turn by Mr Erridge. The Scouts’ displays included a haka and ambulance work. The lady workers of the committee provided supper. In the course of the evening presentation of badges took place and the cup donated by visiting Scoutmaster Henry, of Ireland, was also presented. A large gathering assembled in the social room of the new villa, at the Mental Hospital on Fridayevening, when the staff of the Sea View Mental Hospital said good-bye to Dr and Mrs Hayes, who shortly are being transferred to- Nelson. An address was presented by Mr Wormington, on behalf of the staff, expressing regret at the doctor’s departure, and pleasure at his promotion, and wishing himself and Mrs Hayes -happiness and- prosperity in the future. Other members of the staff also spoke/ hs well' as Mr Coulson, on behalf of the general public. Dr Hayes, in thanking all for their expressions of goodwill, referred to the happy term he has spent in Hokitika, and the excellent staff. He expressed pleasure at the advancement made in the institutions and surroundings. Musical items, recitations, monolgues, etc. were contributed during the evening.
