WELL-PAID JOCKEYS.

(Received October 5, Noon.) LONDON, October 4.

Gordon Richards, the champion jockey, has contracted to ride for the Beckhampton stable next season. He is to receive a retaining fee of £4OOO, plus 10 per cent, of the stakes won by the horses he rides. The stable this year won over £75,000 stake money. Assuming it to be equally successful in 1932, Richards will receive £ll,OOO. He w’ill be at liberty to ride for other stables in races where Beckhampton is not represented, ensuring at least an additional £2OOO, as there is a big demand for his services. Thus he has the prospect of a total income of £17,0000, the highest in the history of racing.

A 16-year-old boy will earn at least £2500 in the 1932 racing season, owing to Lord Glanely appointing F. Rickaby to succeed Richards. In addition to the £2500 retainer, Rickaby receives a share of the stake money.
