M.C.C. v. QUEENSLAND

VISITORS’ POOR SCORE NINE WICKETS FALL FOR 40 By Cable—Press Assn.—Copyright.) BRISBANE, November 29. The cricket match between Queensland and the English team began today. The visitors won the toss, and batted first. The attendance was five thousand. The weather was fine and hot. ’ ’ Gilligan and Duleepsinhji delighted the crowd by their batting, Duleepsinhji being particularly attractive. His all-round play and his on-side hooking were a feature. He batted for 62 minutes for 68 runs, and hit nine fours. Gilligan made 53 and hit six fours.

Ducat, the English coach in Queensland, impressed, but the others fell easily before the attack of Oxenham and Hurwood.

Oxenhani, who is a test tour ‘’certainty” secured three leg before decisions, two of them in succession. Barratt aroused enthusiasm by lifting Oxenham for six. The last nine wickets yielded only 40 runs. O’Connor and Levy opened the Queensland innings, but the Queensland captain was bowled by Nichols. Levy and Gough were associated in a partnership of 138, which was broken when Levy was caught in the slips. He gave an exhilarating display, scoring most of his runs with well-placed shots behind the wicket. He hit thirteen’ fours, and batted 85 minutes for 86 runs. Gqugh batted solidly, and he hit six fours. He made 52. The fielding was lax. The English total was passed in 118 minutes. The fast bowling of Nichols was the most troublesome. Oxenham lost bis wicket after a sound display for 26. Scores: — M.C.C.—-IST. INNINGS.
