FIRE OUTBREAKS
BOARDING HOUSE BLAZE. ' (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 29. A fire broke out at the Arahiwi private hotel, G 7, Abel Smith Street, shortly after 3 p.m. to-day. The fire had a fairly strong hold when discovered, and the firemen were faced with a/difficult task. On arrival, the flames spread so rapidly that an attempt to get in touch with a bbarder on the first floor was out of the question, and the man had to jump to the ground, a distance of about 25 feet. The man, whose name is not yet known, was removed to the hospital. The building, which is of 22 rooms, was badly damaged. The proprietress is Mrs E. M. Pine. DAY’S BAY INSURANCES. WELLINGTON, November 29. The Day’s Bay fire insurances were: On Downes’s house, £3600, in the Atlas office, on the furniture and fittings £750 in the Australian office; on Miss Hawthorn’s house, £2OOO in the Royal office, on the furniture, £5OO in the same office. The damage to Knowles’ house is approximately £350. This is also covered by insurance.
