TAIHAPE, November 29. The body . of' a woman, Mrs E. Hughes, aged 62, was found last evening by her husband and son on their return home after four days’ work in the country. Evidently she died three days ago from a heart attack when getting out of bed. No inquest will be held, as a medical certificate is available.
LONDON, November 27.
The Cabinet Coal Committee has had a conference with the coal mine owners, in reference to the Government’s legislative proposals. No agreement was reached.
WINNIPEG, November 29.
The annual report of the Canadian Wheat Pool shows the total handling of approximately' 253 million bushels of wheat, and thirty-six million coarse grains. The gross turnover for the year was approximately 288 million dollars, a reduction on the previous yeai* of thirty-five million. The report states that taking into consideration modern methods of farm management and the need for the producer to finance operations in the early ’fall, have no hesitation in stating had some such means as the pool not been provided, there would have been complete and utter demoralisating of the market last fall, which would have been disastrous to Canadian business generally. The figures should go far to dispel the erroneous impression that the policy was to hold supplies. The report shows that of Canada’s 104 million bushels carry over, they had only forty-eight million bushels on August 31, and of the crop thi& year they marketed fifty-one per cent. Rumour credited them with holding eighty per cent, carry over. t >
