SINGAPORE BASE

DOMINIONS’ CONTRIBUTIONS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 27. In the House of Commons, Mr Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated that the contributions promised by the Malay States towards the cost of Singapore base were conditional upon the proposals remaining unaltered. The land was to revert to the Straits Settlements’ Government in the event of any alteration regarding the base, and the Admiralty was to pay its market value. The contributions promised by New Zealand and Hong Kong were subject to no express conditions, except implyed conditions that money was to be spent on the development of the base. LATER. Mr Alexander, in the Commons, said that the late Government, in 1927, agreed to two years’ delay in completion of the Singapore base, without consulting the Dominions or Colonies.
