ENGLISH TEAM’S VISIT. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 31. The local Cricket Association does not view the terms asked by the Cricket Council for matches with the English team with equanimity, as £375 is considered too much, as far as Wellington is concerned. The Association expressed its willingness to pay this amount if a vacant day after the Wellington fixture is added on, and the game made a four day match. Attention is also drawn to the fact that the dates alloted for the test in Wellington clash with the Racing Club’s summer fixture, and it is considered that this will materially affect the attendance.

OTAGO’S HESITATION. DUNEDIN, August 1. When the New Zealand Cricket Council’s letter, offering a match to Otago against the English team, for a guarantee of £375, came before the Otago Association, the opinion was expressed that the Council was asking too much. One speaker remarked that the New Zealand Council had undertaken a big risk. The English Association should finance its own teams on tours of New Zealand. The Secretary stated that Otago would have to take a £6OO gate to cover expenses, while the biggest gate ever’ taken was £450. It was decided to reply that Otago was ’considering the matter. A suggestion was made that the citizens be asked to make a guarantee towards the team’s vist to Dunedin. COACH FOR AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, July 31. The Auckland Cricket Association has engaged A. F. The death occurred suddenly this morning of Sydney Edward Gregory, aged fifty, the famous Australian cricketer. He was celebrated as a fieldsman and cover point.
