Jowitt (Labour) .. 35,608 Howitt (Con.) 29,168 Holden (Ind.) 410 Sir W. Jowitt, who was elected at the general election as a Liberal, afterwards - joined the Labour Party, and was appointed Attorney General. His sudden conversion aroused much controversy, and he resigned the seat to test the feeling of the constituency.
