Mr C. N. Taylor left by to-day’s express, on his return to Wellington. Mr Ashley Warnes left by this mowing's express for Auckland, on holiday. Mr J. W. Richmond arrived by this afternoon’s express on a visit to his son, Mr P. Richmond, Greymouth. Mr A. S. Dunford and family, who have been visiting Hokitika, returned this morning to South Canterbury. Mr W. T. Tregurtha, Assistant Traffic Manager of Railways, returned to Christchurch to-day. Mr T A. Johnston, district engineer of the Public Works, returned to Greymouth yesterday from Westport. Mr J Torrance, who has been on a visit to his parents at Greymouth, left by to-day’s express on his return to Dunedin. Recent arrivals at the Albion Hotel include: —Messrs A. Carr (Welington), C. H. Goodman, Burns (Christchurch), P. O’Donnell, Hempseed (Waiuta). Following are guests at Revington s Hotel:—Messrs P. G. Rous sell (Wellington), I. Patterson, H. Lee (jun.), Auld, H. Lee (sen.), (Reefton). Mr Bernard Ryan, local manager of Wilson, Canham and Co., has received notice of his transfer to the Frankton Junction branch of the firm, and will leave Greymouth shortly. The death is announced from Ottawa of Dr. Charles Harris, one of Canada’s leading composers, at the age of 67. He was known throughout the Empire as an impressario, whose speciality was the furtherance of British music. Constable W. C. Robertson, who has been stationed at Murchison for nine years has been transferred to take charge of the new station to be opened at Miramar, Wellington. His place, meanwhile, will be taken by Constable W. Houston, of Reefton.

A Christchurch Press Association’ message stated it is reported in military circles that Brigadier Gardiner, Officer Commanding the Southern Command, will be promoted to the rank of Major-General, and will take over the duties of General Officer Commanding in New Zealand.

The funeral of the late Mr W. Williams took place this morning, leaving the residence of his daughter, Mrs C. Thompson, Preston Road', for the Karoro Cemetery, where the service was conducted by the Rev. T. N. Cuttie. The cortege included about sixty members of the Greymouth Watersiders’ Union.

A London cablegram stated that Lord Headley had married Mrs Catherine Bashford, daughter of the late Joseph Lovibond, a ■well-known brewer. This is Lord Headley’s third marriage. He was born in 1855, and is an engineer by profession. He is a professed Mohammedan, and has made the pilgrimage to Mecca.

The Mr Neil Stewart, who was killed in an aeroplane crash in the Blue Mountains last week-end, was manager of the shipping company, Lamb and Co., of Sydney. During a honeymoon trip in New Zealand last year, Mr and Mrs Stewart spent some time in Greymouth. Mrs Stewart was also injured in the accident, but advice received by Messrs Wild and Robertson, the local agents for Lamb and Co., states that she is progressing satisfactorily.

The opportunity was taken yesterday evening by the staff .of the Greymouth Chief Post/ Office to present a pair of Loewe pipes to Mr J. I. Clarke, who has been transferred from the Telegraph branch here to the Post Office, Marton. In the unavoidable absence of the Chief Postmaster (Mr H. G. Davis) Mr. H. Miller Superintendent of the Telegraph branch) made the

presentation, referring to Mr Clarke’s efficient discharge of duties during his 1 three years’ term in Greymouth, and paid a tribute also to his athletic association with the oflice. He had proved a very fine officer indeed, and the whole staff was sorry to see him depart. Other speakers were Messrs J. Sullivan (clerical branch), J. Cody (Savings Bank), and J. Hayden (Telegraph branch). Mr Clarke suitably replied. He left by this morning’s express for Marton. ,
