HOSPITAL BOARD. - (Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, July 29. The monthly, meeting of the Inanga-* hua Hospital Board was held last evening. Present; Messrs F. Seawright, JO’Regan, W. Blackadder, J. O. Byrne, E. J. Paine, G. B. Mclnroe. An apology from ,J. B- Auld for absence was received. Mr Seawright was elesi: ed to the chair. H. A. Ord, secretary of the Waiuta Medical Association, enclosed the month of July’s contribution £37 10/, also collections from J. F. Dwyer’s employees £1 16/10. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister off Health, wrote re decision of Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board with respect to Reefton Hospital, and stating that he was referring the correspondence to the Board for report. J. W. Buchanan, secretary of the Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board, wrote stating that the Board, had reconsidered and approved its previous resolution that it was unable to approve of the Reefton Hospital as a training school. The Health Department stated that Miss Hunt’s appointment as Matron of the, Waiuta Nurses’ Home had been approved. The" Nelson Hospital Board wrote, asking the Board’s view re reciprocity in relations betiveen.the two Boards. — It was decided to enter into reciprocal relations with The Nelson Board. The Department of Health wrote re purchase of gramophone, authorising the expenditure of £lO of the Hospital funds. Mr Paine moved and Mr O Regan seconded, that the sunt of £lO be voted’ for purchase of gramophone, and the Secretary obtain prices /from local tradesmen. —Carried.’

The Department Of Health wrote .re patients and outpatients sheets for Reefton. and Waiuta Hospitals, and recommending cash payments for outpatients, and suggesting methods of obtaining payment of debts, also enclosing forms of letters. Sister Pierard wrote resigning her position as’ sister as from August 31, stating that she was unable to train single-handed, the junior nurses, not receiving any assistance from her seniors. Mr Seawright moved that a committee be appointed to hold an inquiry into the cause of the dissatisfaction, and report to a special meeting of the Board. Mr Mclnroe seconded the motion. Mr Paine thought the whole Board should be present at the inquiry. It was curried that the inquiry be held at the Hospital Oil Friday, August 6, at 7.30 p-ni. • ' . Mr Seawright referred', to "a rdinour that nurses-were' on night dut/continuously for a moiiih at a time, and ten hours per shift. H(j. irioved that the Matron be informed that night nurses be not kept on duty more than eiglit; hours per day,, and that a record ‘of each nurse’s hours be' kept. It was carried that the attention of the Postmaster be called to the unsatisfactory state? of the telephone to the Hospital. The Matron of the Waiuta Nurses’ Home reported: —Admitted 2, discharged 2, number of outpatients 49, attendances 162. '

. The Medical Superintendent of the Reefton Hospital reported as follows: Admitted 10, discharged 11/ diedH, remaining 29, operations 3,, outpatients 9,, attendances 49. The stocktaking of drugs was proceeding slowly, and he hoped to complete this early in August. . /
