During the running of the Takapuna Hurdles at Devonport on Saturday, six horses came down, and their riders sustained more or less. serious injuries. Three of the jockeys were sent to the hospital. E. Preston Crider of Daddy’s Girl) sustained a broken jaw. and was shaken. Regan (the rider of Mangarewa) was also knocked about. Fielding (rider of Irish Jig) had a collarbone broken. Tn the Suburban Handicap, Driscoll, the rider of Air Queen, was unseated and sustained bruises on the\back.

The Judicial Committee found that, on the evidence, it certain that Toll Chimed started before his proper time, and before the signal to start was given, and that he therefore be placed behind the placed horses, and Master Cute be placed first, Hohora 2, and Jean Darling 3. In accordance with Rule 284, the driver, F. Smith, was fined £5, the minimum allowed by the rule.
