The visitors, putting dash into the play, had-the Blacks .anxjbus. Mouat made, an unsuccessful attempt at goal. Saunders set the backs going, but .was pulled up for a'knock-on, Bresnahan made a good save. Kirwan was responsible for a nice nippy run. Brown made a >. sensational run the length of the ground, Brosnahan saving. A passing bout by Avery, Brown and Herring ended in the latter scoring under the posts. Delgrosso missed the goal-kick. North immediately attacked and scored two minutes later by Dixon.
Delgrosso goaled. The South forwards broke away from a penalty kick and Mouat landed a betutiful goal. Townsend was continually hooking the ball. South Invaded North’s area, but over-eagerness gave North 11, penalty. The South pack swooped down on Dufty, who evaded trickily. Fitzgerald nearly scored', but got held against th* upright. The Whites attacked vigorously and dribbled over the line in massed formation. Mount scored in a corner, but missed with a difficult shot.
The visitors were putting pep into their work, and were awarded a penalty "in the North area. Mount again goafod, niaking the score : North 8. South 7. Kirwan, cutting mon out in great style, made a fine opening for Bass, who sent to Davidson to Wilson and Hall, who kicked ’’over the line, and Brown’s speed enabled him to score. 'Thomas and Henry were breaking away well, but the defence was sound. On the resumption of play, South attacked, Dufty stopping a movement by marking. Off-side play by Herring gave Mouat a chance to land a nice goal. Davidson next outpaced the opposition and scored under the posts. The goal kick missed. Connor replaced Mears, who retired with a broken shoulder.' Dufty made a fine line kick, Fitzgerald relieving.
Saunders made an onslaught that looked like scoring. Th* visitors were playing with great dash and kept the ball at the toe and several times looked like scoring. South were adopting the up and under methods, and had North strenuously defending. Fitzgerald was hurt and kis place was filled bv Hastio. Pretty reverse passing by Brown. Wilson, and Hall made things dangerous for the (South. The .Southern forwards were too good for the North, but the backs wero too slow to take advantage of the opportunities. Carroll took the ball away at his toe, Avery finishing off with n score. Delgrosso again missed.
McKay. Henery and Green were prominent in a loose rush. Wetherill
secured possession with a dodgy run, through the centre, handed io Herring, who scored under the posts. Delgrosso goaled. An attack by South saw the forwards right through. Parkes should have scored, but lost the ball over the line. Mouat putting in sensational® work for the. South scrummed with North’s twesty-five. Watts worked a blind and gave to Mouat, who made a -desperado effort, being grassed on the line. No further score look place before the bell rang. The game was played in pouring ,I’ain.
