No fatalities are reported, but the traffic m cue trans-continental railway was -impended by avalanches brought down by the ’quake, and the collapse of a tunnel.

Thousands of people rushed panic,stricken into the streets of the differmt cities at the first tremor. Half a dozen buildings were demolished.
