Chinese bandits near Chiuho, in Yunnan province, have captured Darcy Wetherbe, a British mining engineer. Steamers arriving at Ichang, at the head of steamer navigation on the Yangtze river, report that American and British steamers, under the escort of the American gunboat “Monocracy,” were subjected to a heavy lire near Chungking. The gunboat returned the lire, inflicting heavy damage.
