A slight improvement is to-day re ported in the condition of Nursi Foster, of [the Grey River Hospital who has a severe attack of influenza. Messrs Pye Smith (Abbot Oram ant Co.), C. Burke (Shorland and Co.), am H. J. Hanis, (Odlin lumber anc Hardware Co. Ltd.) are visiting Grey mouth. Miss Holder, Wanganui, who has been on a visit to Mrs Wm. Holder, Tainui St, left by the Otira express to-day. , ' JDr. Moore, the newly appointed Medical Superintendent oi the Grey River Hospital, and Sister Broad, the new Matron, are expected to arrive m Greymouth next Tuesday. Miss N. Furness, the West Coast member of the South Island representative Ladies’ Hockey team, left for Christchurch this morning, accompanied by Miss Bring. A cable message from London states that Paymaster Commander Reginald Butcher has been appointed Secretary of the New Zealand Naval Force. He will sail for New Zealand in the Rotorua. / Princess Maud of Fife’s marriage has been fixed for October 15 in the Gtards’ Chapel, Wellington Barracks. It will be the first royal wedding there solemnised. Mr. H. H. Carr, Registrar of the Native Land Court at Gisborne, has been appointed a Judge of the Native Land Court. Prior to his appointment’as Registrar, Mr. Carr was m the Native Land Purchase Office. The death occurred at the Grey River Hospital yesterday of Mr. William Begent, aged 82 years. Deceased was a native of England, and arrived on the West Coast in the early days, following the occupation of a miner. He was well known in the Moonlight district. The funeral will take place to- morrow afternoon.

A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Barnabas’ Church, Riwaka (Nelson), on July 11, when Miss Amy Nottle, eldest daughter op Mr. and Mrs J. W. Nottle, of Westport, was married to Mr. Leonard Hurley, son of Mr. 0. Hurley, of Nelson. The Bev. Lionel Mackay officiated, and Miss Hazel Mickell presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by Mr. R. P. Rowling, looked charming An a frock of ivory crepe-de-chine, with an overdress of radium lace. An embroidered veil was held in place by a spray of orange blossoms and a bouquet of spring flowers and'asparagus tern was carried. Miss Mabel Nottle, sister of the bride was bridesmaid and wore a. dress of pink satin and r.»ob cap and carried a posy of violets. Mr. Hugh McKenzie, of Riwaka, was best man. The death occurred in Blenheim last evening, of Mrs York, wife of Archdeacon York, and formerly Miss Lilian Petrie, eldest daughter of the late Mr. J. and Mrs Petrie, of Greymouth. Mrs York had been in failing health for some years, and recently underwent a critical operation. Her death was not unexpected. She was born and educated in Greymouth, being prominent in musical circles here for many years. In addition to taking a loading part in the organisation of charitable functions she was fi r some time organist at Holy Trinity Church. Her marriage to Archdeacon York took place in 1899 and Mr. arid Mrs York resided in Greymouth until about four years ago; when the Archilcon was transferred to the parish r.f '< tuheim. The late Mrs York leaves in addition to her husband, her mother, Mrs J. Petrie who resided with her. She also leaves’two brothers Messrs Jack Petrie (Auckland) anl Andrew Petrie (Fielding) and two sisters, Mar ian Petrie (America) .ind Miss Dc»j Petrie (Wellington).
