WATER SUPPLY
ENGINE BREAKS DOWN.
Persistent ill-luck appears to linger in the vicinity of tho Greymouth pumping station, doing its best to defeat the efforts made to ensure an adequate supply of water for the town Last week tho supply was restricted during the work of overhauling the two sets of pumps. This was completed on Saturday, and no trouble was experienced until /last evening, when the crank shaft on the No. 1 engine broke at 6.45 0 clocx. As a result the supply will have to bo maintained by one pump until repairs are carried out. The Borough Engineer (Dlr W. J. O’Donnell) estimates that the work will occupy a week or more. There was 14 feet of water in the reservoir last night. Consumers are advised to economise in the use of water, and if this is done a shortage is not a nticip atecL
