ANGLO-JAP TREATY
BRITISH REQUEST. RENEWAL POSTPONED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) Recd. 10 a.m. LONDON, June 27. The Australian Press Association learns that the Foreign Office cabled a fortnight ago to Japan, asking that the date for the Anglo-Japanese Alliance renewal decision be postponed for three months. It is not known whether a reply has been received, but it is creditably reported that Japanese political circles are greatly disturbed and alarmed at the signs of the growing opposition, in London to the renewal of the Treaty. DISA RMAMENT SUPPORTED. Recd 1 p.m. TOKIO, June 27. The National Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution urging Japan to conclude a disarmament agreement with the neighbouring Powers. Viscount Shibusawa declared that Japan’s relations with America and China were regrettably unsatisfactory. He urged the Government to withdraw troops from the Hankow-Shantung railway to exert greater disarmament efforts and to transfer part of the military expenditure for development of the industry.
