BABY SUFFOCATED
THROUGH SWALLOWING A j DUMMY. to? IBLIKSBIAJH—i?EIi PSBf-fl ABoOCIATIOa. WELLINGTON, This Day. | At (he inquest on a little girl, whose death was caused by a dummy getting fixed in the windpipe, the adopting mother stated that she endeavoured to get it away with her fingers. Failing to do so she telephoned to Dr. Gibbs, who found the child suffocated. j He unavailingly tried artificial res-j piration. Had a tape or string been attached to the dummy, the accident could not have occurred, neither' could it had a larger dummy been used. The mother stated that she had taken a dirty tape, away from the dummy, intending to replace it with a clean one after dressing. ! The doctor said that if the child were taken by the legs and held down- • ward the dummy might have come away. The use of fingers resulted in. embedding the dummy more firmly in. the back of the mouth. ! The Coroner returned a verdict. that death was caused by suffocation, ad- j ding that the adopting parents did all that was possible under the distressing i circumstances. j
