THE HINDU PROBLEM

EXCLUSION FROM CANADA. [PEK TKESS ASSOCIATION—CJPTIUGHT.J (Received this day at 8 a.m.) OTTAWA, June 26. The Premier, Mr. R. L. Borden, gives an absolute denial to the story that the Hindus will be allowed to land, stating that the provisions in the law in regard to the Hindus will be strictly enforced. Late last evening Mr. H. H. Stevens M.P., sent a proposal, to which lie apparently agreed, for an immigration Inspector to ship the entire party away by the s.s. Empress of India, which will leave Vancouver to-day. The proposition is virtually to "Shanghai" the Hindus now aboard the Komagata Mara on to the Empress of India. Apparently the plan is well arranged, for later telegrams suggested that Stev ens and Reid would attend to the details if the Government would authorise the expenditure of 18,000 dollars and the necessary tickets for the party to be put aboard the Empress of India. It is understood that it has. been planned that the C.P.R. liner will leave the wharf at her usual time of departure, and will be drawn alongside the Komagata Maru. The Premier and officials of departments have considered the proposition, but no official intimation or instructions have been sent to Vancouver as. /.nrioiinced. LATER. It has been learned that Stevens's plan was not adopted. The Government will not seek to detain the Empress of India. VANCOUVER, June 26. The Immigration Inspector signed .in order for the deportation of Hindu pasengers on the Komagata Maru. This action will supply a test case for the courts. An application for a writ of Habeas Corpus was made, and refused bv the court. An application will be niade to the Court, of Appeal at a special sitting to consider the appeal. Application "for Habeas Corpus was made to override the deportation order.
