Constable Carroll, formerly in charge of the Ruuanga, station, and for the past few weeks on sick leave, has been 'appointed to take charge of the Stafford station. •H a meting of the Westland Reform League Messrs' .\fithel. Webb, Norman, and Ralfe wen- appointed as delegates to the annual conference to he held at Wellington on July loth and 17th. W e regret having 10 chronicle the death of one of the oldest and best esteemed residents of Ross, in the person of Mrs Mahler, who passed away on Thursday last. Mrs Mahler was predeceased bv"her'husband, who died last year. 'The. death of Mr Timothy Tierney, an old miner, a former resident of Rimu, took place at the Westland Hospital on Thursday night. The deceased, who was i. native of. Ireland, was 77 years of age. He had been an inmate of the hospital for seven years. The Hon. F.' M. B. Fisher will probably make a hurried visit to the West Coast in about ten days' time. It is reported that the visit is in connection with Harbor Board- matters and to enable n representative of the Government to be present at the unveiling of the' Westland pioneers'- Memorial'on July Bth. Mr F. Brown, of Reef ton, received the sad news yesterday of the death of his father, Dr Brown, aged, 78 years, who passed away at his residence. Kumara, very suddenly, leaving a widow and a grown-up family of six sons and a daughter. The deceased gentleman was a retired regimental surgeon on the usual half-pay pension. The late Mr Brown was a native. of*CountV Tipperary.

IMr H. Patterson, of the Greymouth Post O.Tice staff, has received notice of his transfer to Auckland. Last evening he was presented with a silver-mounted walking stick, umbrella, and set of brushes by the staff, and the best of wishes expresesd for the recipient's future and the hope expressed that he would find improved health in ids new home. Mr Bevan spoke on behalf of the donors, and the recipient suitably replied.-
