To-day the hook of words in connection with the West Coast Competitions Society’s eighth annual festival was issued, and a perusal at once convinces the reader that thi Committee on this occasion have madj very elaborate preparations for the contests which will commence on September 21st and continue over seven days. The programme, wlnc.i ' has been finally approved by the Com- ' mittee, covers a very wide field, so the ! value of the competitions from an educational viewpoint is undoubtedly increased,. In addition to the usual elocutionary! arid kindred clai gos,, several new features have been introduced this year. Chief of these will be found in the musical section, this portion having been enlarged by the inclusion of. sacred solo, national songs, and instrumental items. In addition, the following championships will be competed for: (a) champion docntionist (gentleman); (b) champion elocutionist (lady) ; (ci oratory-debating champion (gentleman); (d) champion vocalist (lady); (e) champion vocalist (gentleman). The book of words sets out very clearly the rules and regulations governing the competitions,\ supplies the words of the selected pieces, and. generally directs intending competitors as to what is required- of them. All entries close on Wednesday, August 12th, with the Secretary, Mr J- F- Wilson.
