The WaverJey arrived last evening from Wellingto nvia way ports, and sails tins afternoon, with a cargo of State coal for Picton.

The Kaitoa leaves Wellington to-day for Greymonth via Picton and Westport, and is due here on Monday. The Kennedy sailed yesterday for Westport, to load coal for Nelson. The Ngahere arrived from Wellington yesterday, and sails for Onehunga this afternoon.

The Kaituna sails this afternoon for Wellington and Lyttelton, and the Flora for East Coast southern ports. Mr C. Roberts, late acting master of the Kainona, joined the Pateena on Monday as chief officer, in place of Mr R. F. Chadwick. • ■,

Captain Watchlin, of the Union Company’s salvage tug Tcrawhifi, has been advised that he has been granted a commission as sub lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve.

The Kaitangaia is expected at Newcastle on Friday next for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. After completing discharging the vessel will undergo hr annual survey at Port Chalmers. Captain J. J. Pennington has just retired from the Union Company’s service, having attained the age limit. He will proceed to Sydney by the Manuka, Homeward bound. Twenty-two years ago Captain Pennington was a chief officer on the staff of the Tasmanian. Steam Navigation' Company, and when the interests of the latter company were acquired by the Union Company he became an officer in the Red Funnel fleet. During his twen-ty-two years’ service with the Union Company Captain Pennington has had command of the Koonya Wakatipn, Rosamond Kakaoo, Kittawa, and other steamers, and has long been known ns one of the most careful and reliable commanders in the fleet.
