EDGWARE ROAD ROBBERY. LONDON, November 7. James Gale, carman and George Hayes, porter, have confessed to the taxi-cab robbery in Edgware Road. They were remanded with Leslie Gale, a pawni broker’s assistant. DAMAGES FOR LIBEL. LONDON, November 7.—Harvey, a syndicalist belonging to the Durham Miners’ Association was ordered to pay John Wilson, M.P., £2OO for libel in a pamphlet suggesting that Wilson was willing to be bribed and was serving the capitalists. OBITUARY. LONDON, November 7.—The death occurred to-day of Mr., G. Harwood, Liberal member for Bolton. EMPIRE COMMISSION. LONDON, November 7.—Before the Empire Commission the representatives of the Irish Industrial Association complained that the Commonwealth treated Poplins as wool instead of -silk. It was important, lie said, that the Commonwealth should institute a special definition of Irish potstill whisky, which did not come under the definitions .of “all malt” or “blended.” The representatives of tho Incorporated Society of Meat Importers complained of the substitution of inferior foreign meat in English shops for Australia and New Zealand. They commended the Christchurch Meat Company’s metal labelling system. A large amount of the best Canterbury lamb was, they stated, sold in the West End as the best English.

TUNNEL FATALITY. QUEBEC, November 7.—Gas from a a passing train overcame fifteen workmen in a tunnel in the NorthernPacific ratal road. Train crews secured several and were then overcome themselves.
