A FATAL MISTAKE
POISON FOR LIME JUICE. (BY TELEGRAPH. —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, This-:-Day. The death* occurred suddenly in Christchurch yesterday morning of Mr John Manttan, a'well-known wholesale jeweller and dental importer. Mr. Manttan whs sixty years of age and came to Christchurch ten years ago from, Sydney, being a native of. England. He was married and leaves a, large family. . . , For some time 1 Mr. Manttan had been suffering from rheumatism, and to refresh himself during frequent periods; of faintness he kept; a bottle of lime juice in his strong room. Last Tuesday, at about 1 p.m. he felt weak, but instead of taking the lima juice h c took, by mistake, a dose of glacial acetic acid’which was in the strong-room, ber.ng kept there for-den-tal purposes. ; It is-known as a deadly poison, and Mr- Manttan suffered severely from its effects, passing away at 11.15 a.m, yesterday. .
