DROWNING ACCIDENT NEAR WANGANUI.
WANGANUI, Dec. B.—A drowning accident happened to-day in the river opposite the Landguard Bluff, t-v'o miles below the town. Charles Wood, a carpenter and married, had been in town at the election on the previous day and celebrated the occasion. This morning he went to work at Messrs Mitchell and Company's new freezing works, but it was deemed advisable to send him home by the launch. As they were leaving and when the other men were in the engine room, Wood apparently fell off and was drowned. operations were unsuccessful.
