A SUCCESSFUL LODGE.

STAR OF THE WEST DRUIDS

The half-yearly meeting, of the Star of the West Druids Lodge No. 36 was held last night "when there was a very large attendance of, members and the proceedings were very animated. A.D. Bro. J. Kyle presided, and welcomed the brethren. The auditors 'report on the finances of the lodge disclosed a most satisfactory condition of affairs as after payment of all liabilities the sick and funeral fund showed an increase of £125 19s for the half-year and the hall account also disclosed a profit and a reduction of £SO off the liabilities on the hall. The reports were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the ensuing term, was then proceeding with the result being as follows:—A.D. Bro. J. Kyle took the I.P.A. chair; V.A. Bro. E. J. Wilson was returned A.D. unopposed ; Bros. C. Millott and A. E. Kilgour were balloted for and the former elected V.A. Bards ; there were five candidates for the position of I.G. and on the first ballot Bros. H. D. Carruthers and Roberts were left in and ,on the second ballot Bro. Roberts was declared elected by three votes. There were ten candidates for A.D. Bard, Bros. Hilliej and A. E. Kilgour being elected on the third ballot. Eight candidates stood for VA. Bard and Bros. H. I). Carruthers and Guy were elected on the third ballot... The other offices were filled without opposition, viz. : 0.G., P. A. Bro. W. Sampson ; Minute Secretary, Bro. J. Phillips ; Secretary, Bro. J. Jackson and Treasurer G.G. Bro. J. Tennent.

THE INSTALLATION. P.D.P.'s Bros. Mosley and Ashton assisted by P. A. Bro. J. Verguson conducted he installation after which Bro. Mosley delivered a very practical address to the newly installed officers pointing out the many advantages of Druidism and giving them advice as to how best to serve the interests of the lodge and Order while they held their offices. He also exhorted the members to maintain the dignity of the lodge at all times and by their behaviour and general comportment show outsiders that Druidism was not only one of the best systems of mutual help and tended to make better members of society of all who joined it. His remarks were listened to with keen attention and at the close he was warmly thanked for his address. SUNDRY MATTERS. A presentation was then made to P. A. Bro. W. Sampson in the shape of a beautifully framed P.A. diploma also a handsomely designed P. A. collar bearing the insignia of his office worked into the velvet which he suitably acknowledged. Two candidates were proposed for initiation and the lodge was then closed in due form. A BANQUET. A banquet was then held at which Bro. E. J. Wilson presided and proposed "The King and the Order." Bro. A. King sang "The Two Sweethearts."

Bro. Verguson proposed "The- Grand Lodge and it s Officers" which was received with musical honors. Bro. Carruthers sang very effectively "Eileen Allanah."

"Success to the Star of the West Lodge," was very ably proposed by D.P. Bro. Ash ton and responded to by A.D. Bro. E. J. Wilson, Secretary, Bro. J. Jackson and V.A. Bro. C. Millott. Bro. Dall sang "Afton Water." and Bro. J. Jackson gave a humorous story. "The Press and the Order" was proposed by Bros. Sampson in very complimentary terms, but.as there was no representative of the fourth estate present, though there are several members of the lodge belonging to the profession, Bro. A. E. Kilgour "made good" for the absentees. " Bro. Millott sang "The Ship I Love and harmony then prevailed, Bro. Ashton siging "Hush," Bro. Wilson "Thenheads nestle closer together," Bro. Verguson "The old arm chair, and others "Auld Lang Syne" was sung heartily at the close of a memorable evening.
